AAFP's Dr. Steven Waldren Named Chairman
Alexandria, Va. - October 18, 2007 - The Center for Improving Medication Management today formally announced its board of directors and named Dr. Steven Waldren of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) as its chairman. The following board members were also elected:
- Dave Bernauer, retired chairman and CEO of Walgreen Co.
- Kate Berry, senior vice president of business development for SureScripts and executive director of The Center
- William Fleming, Pharm.D., vice president of pharmacy and clinical integration for Humana Inc.
- Kevin Hutchinson, president and CEO of SureScripts
- Dr. William F. Jessee, FACMPE, president and CEO of the Medical Group Management Association
- Dr. Allan Korn, senior vice president and chief medical officer of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association
- Dr. Bern Shen, chief healthcare strategist for the Intel Digital Health Group
Launched in August, The Center conducts research and develops programs that promote collaboration among physicians, pharmacists, payers, health systems and patients and improve the prescription medication management process relied upon by millions of patients every day.
"The Center aims to incite collaboration among patients, physicians, pharmacists and health plans to improve medication management," said Dr. Waldren. "Ultimately, patients will benefit from greater quality, safety and efficiency of care delivery."
"Since The Center was launched, we have received dozens of inquiries from a wide range of organizations with interest in its mission," said Kate Berry, executive director of The Center. "The timing seems perfect for a collaborative among physician practices, pharmacists, payers and employers to focus on projects and programs to improve the outcomes of medication management."
The Center for Improving Medication Management
The Center for Improving Medication Management provides expertise and resources on how technology and health information exchange can improve the way medications are prescribed, filled, used and evaluated for patient outcomes. The Center was founded by American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), Humana Inc., Intel Corporation, the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and SureScripts.
